Elevating Italian Computer Science Innovation and Research
Bologna Orthogonal Summer Term
The Bologna Orthogonal Summer Term (BOOST) is a two-week program, offered annually during the summer, open to brilliant third-year undergraduate students in STEM disciplines from all over Italy. Students typically participate in BOOST at the end of their Laurea Triennale.
BOOST offers a series of short courses and seminars, selected to expose students to the intellectual depth of computer science and the symbiotic relationship between fundamental research and the real-world impact it promotes. Basic computer science courses are taught by professors from top universities, and other courses explore the social impact of computer science; entrepreneurs, through masterclasses, share with BOOST participants their experience in turning research ideas into successful startups.
Presentations and discussions during BOOST will also provide participants with opportunities to better understand the spirit and nature of the Orthogonal School. The expectation is that a significant fraction of the approximately 20 students admitted to the SO each year will have attended BOOST.
Admission to BOOST is competitive, with approximately 60 students admitted each year.
